Chimay!

Alright! We’re making this happen, starting with CHEEEEEEESE! Not just any cheese, mind you, but Chimay. Oh my.

You know how sometimes you have those lingering thoughts about an excellent evening, a tasty event or how much fun you had “that” day? Well, this experience was definitely one for me. I am still thinking about this event, nine months later. In fact, just yesterday I told someone about it (while I was drinking a Chimay Rouge, of course!).

This past February, I was invited to a Chimay Beer and Cheese tasting at Monk Place , here in Brussels. If you haven’t been to Monk yet (why not?), you should go. It’s lots of fun, reminiscent of old-timey pubs, wood paneling and a lot of regulars. They’ve got a decent beer on tap list and a wine list, and even food, for those in the mood for dinner. I’ve heard that their spaghetti is yuuuuuum-mee!

Initiated by Belgian Beer & Food, Paul Walsh, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of the magazine, invited about 20 female bloggers and journalists in Brussels for the event. Touted as “an exclusive taste of Chimayโ€™s authentic Trappist beer and cheeses,” we were able to experience pairing potential of Chimay products. It was awesome to be surrounded by so many kind, smart and talented women for the whole evening. More than that, though, there was an excellent presentation of Chimayโ€™s brewing and cheese-making philosophy, and then beer expert Pierre Zuber of the Brussels shop Delices et Caprices led a tasting of three Chimay beers and three Chimay cheeses. Of course, that doesn’t count refills! ๐Ÿ™‚

Everything was just amazingly tasty. We also went home with a super goodie bag full of cool things like books and cheese and beer and the Belgian Beer & Food magazines and even a cheese knife and bottle opener! Wow! I felt like a cool kid, that’s for sure.

I think it’s time for a beer. It’s 5 o’clock somewhere, right? Oh wait. It’s 5:00 here. Right now! YAY!
